What is bachata?
Bachata is a music and dance style from the Dominican Republic, born in the ’60s as a blend of bolero, son, merengue and even rock (think of the modern bachata of Aventura or Romeo Santos). Originally associated with the country's poorer population, it has become a worldwide sensation.
Bachata is a romantic style: the songs are often about love and heartbreak. You can dance it solo, as a couple or even in a group (often as a show). From the ’90s bachata spread to Latin America and the US, and today it's one of the most popular dance styles in the world.
Bachata in the Netherlands
Bachata is popular in the Netherlands too. Many schools offer classes for beginners and advanced dancers, and there are plenty of parties where fans get together.
Classes
With us you can take bachata in at least 3 levels. In class you mostly dance as a couple, with some solo parts too. Check the schedule for all classes.
Parties and social dancing
Bachata is often played at salsa parties. Most salsa dancers also dance bachata and vice versa: it's really one dance community.
